We’re going to an “evening of Jewish and Christian traditions” at our church tonight, and everyone was asked to bring a batch of charoset for a mini-Seder. There are different varieties of charoset, but it is basically a salad of fruit and nuts that is traditionally eaten during the Seder meal. Some versions of charoset are in the form of a paste, but we made a chunkier version with a base of apples and dates. This is popular with adults and kids alike.
2 chopped apples
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup chopped pistachios
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. honey
1/4 cup grape juice
Chop the apples, dates, and nuts very finely. Stir all the ingredients together in a bowl and refrigerate. Serve at room temperature.

This sounds fabulous and I want to try it. I’ve got all the ingredients except the pistachio’s and grape juice…I have some apple juice…could I sub that with good results?
You can definitely substitute apple juice. You could even use lemon juice or wine vinegar instead for a different flavor. Other nuts can be used too – walnuts, almonds, pine nuts, etc. Let me know how you like it!
Nice! Thanks!
