I don’t like waiting until the last minute for holiday shopping. The mere thought of going to the mall at any point in December is unnerving to me. Fortunately, there are lots of great deals in November for things on my list. My children started their Christmas lists last month, so I’m already on the hunt for gifts.

Amazon is one of my favorite places to shop this time of year. Adults deserve a few holiday gifts too, and this is the perfect time to stock up on kitchen gadgets that will make your life easier. There are so many affordable kitchen gifts for all the cooks in your life. Does your husband want some new tools for the grill? Could grandma use a new cookie sheet? This is the time to search for deals on Amazon, because there are some amazing sales.

Prices change quickly, but here are 10 kitchen gadgets on Amazon that I highly recommend for any real food kitchen. I have a version of each of these items, and I use them regularly. I could really use a four-cup glass measuring cup, though. (I hope you’re reading this, Santa.) 🙂

Kitchen Gadgets under $20

Small Silicone Spatula: I have several silicone spatulas, but I use this small one the most. Because it’s narrow, you can use it to get inside a smaller jar or scrape a small surface more effectively than with a large spatula.

Glass Measuring Cups: I have a few glass measuring cups, and the 2-cup version is the one I use the most. Many recipes call for between one and two cups of liquid, so it’s easier to use a 2-cup measure than to measure twice in a 1-cup measure.

Pyrex Glass Storage Containers: These Pyrex containers are so sturdy and practical. They can go from freezer to fridge, oven to dishwasher. I feel more comfortable storing food in these than in plastic storage containers.

Glass Pie Plate: I use my glass pie pans to bake many things, including pie, quiche, puff pancakes, and even maple soy salmon. Again, this is so sturdy that it would take a really hard fall at just the right angle to break it.

Silicone Lily Pad Lid: I love using this silicone lid in place of plastic wrap for temporary food storage in the fridge. It’s oven-safe as well, so it can be used instead of aluminum foil to cover a dish while baking.

OXO Angled Measuring Cup: I don’t know how I lived without one of these for forty years. It’s a brilliant angled cup that measures four tablespoons of liquid. It’s difficult to measure liquid tablespoons with an actual tablespoon, and this little cup solves that problem of spillover.

Microfiber Dish Drying Mat: Some days I find myself washing dishes 5 or 6 times. For extra large hand-washing loads, I pull out this microfiber dish mat. It fits nicely under the sink and dries quickly.

Microplane Zester/Grater: A microplane is a great tool for zesting citrus peel or grating fresh spices. I also use it to grate garlic so I don’t get big chunks in my recipes.

Small Cutting Board: I love having a small bamboo cutting board for little projects like slicing an apple. There’s no need to bother with larger boards when you’re cutting something small.

Mini Colander: We bought these mini colanders as the “goody bag” gift for my daughter’s eighth birthday party. I’m so happy we saved one for ourselves. This is perfect for rinsing a small batch of berries or cherry tomatoes. I use it all the time.

Hopefully this list of affordable kitchen gadgets will help get you started on your holiday shopping!

  1. Annemarie,
Terrific list! I line the right sided sink with my microfiber dish mat (it’s nearly always full of drying dishes). A very handy item indeed.
    Thanks!

  2. I couldn’t live without my OXO tablespoon measuring cup. Perfect when you need to add small amounts of oil, water or maple syrup to a recipe.
