Meal planning is more important than ever in the summer. When schedules are erratic, it’s so easy to slip into a routine of grabbing takeout for dinner. By consulting your calendar each week and coming up with a meal plan, you’ll be able to stay intentional about what you’re eating.
My kids are on the swim team, so we’re out at ponds and pools for swim meets during dinnertime twice a week in the summer. On two other nights each week, they have swim practice until 5:00, so we arrive home at 5:15 tired and hungry.
This week we have our first swim meet, and it’s an away meet near one of our favorite barbecue restaurants. We’re celebrating with takeout that night (intentionally). My children wanted to get in on the meal planning during the summer, so the pulled pork and breakfast burritos are their requests.

Conquering Your Kitchen
If you want to get better about meal planning, my new book, Conquering Your Kitchen, would be a great resource for you. It outlines the details of how to plan your menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it includes two weeks’ worth of sample meal plans (plus a bonus third meal plan download).
And Wednesday is the last day to enter my big giveaway, which includes a set of Cutco kitchen knives, a Calphalon skillet, a Toscana cutting board, and a couple copies of Conquering Your Kitchen. Good luck to everyone who enters!
Update on Last Week
I mentioned in last week’s meal plan that my husband was cooking dinner all week as a belated birthday gift to me. He did a fantastic job, and it was such a treat to get out of cooking for a week.
