Star Market and Hunger Is are partnering to help children in need. Shop at Star Market during September to support breakfast programs for hungry kids across America.
As kids get back to school this fall, it’s a good time to remember the importance of starting the day with breakfast. Skipping the morning meal can lead to poor concentration and low energy. It’s hard for children to do well in school without energizing themselves with a healthy breakfast before the school day begins.
Unfortunately, many children suffer from inadequate food at home. Ten million American children in lower income homes don’t receive the free or reduced rate breakfast at school that they need. Sixty percent of elementary school teachers (grades K-8) report regularly seeing children coming to school hungry.
Hunger Is Campaign
Star Market is partnering with the Hunger Is campaign during September to help expand breakfast programs for children in need. As a parent of two middle schoolers, I know how important it is to start the day with a healthy breakfast. My kids can’t function at their best until they have something in their stomachs in the morning.
It breaks my heart to know that millions of children are going to school without anything to eat first, so I’m happy to be working with Star Market to raise awareness about this important issue. I used to be a teacher, and I know firsthand that children have a hard time learning when they’re not well-fed and well-rested. Starting the school day without breakfast sets them up for extra struggles at school.
We can all contribute to this important cause by shopping at Star Market this month. Donate $1, $3, $5, or any amount right at the register when you’re checking out. All the funds will go directly to the Hunger Is campaign. You can also purchase specially marked items throughout the store, and at least $.10 will be donated to Hunger Is for each item purchased. Brands include Quaker, Earthbound, Morning Star Farms, and many others. (Note: Purchase of these items in September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million.)
Let’s work together to help Hunger Is achieve their goal, which is to “make breakfast happen so kids can be hungry for more.”

Great post! Child hunger is such an important topic, as is starting the day with a good breakfast. Good to know about Star Market’s program since we have one in the town next to us.
