In just about any part of the region, you can find a pretty country road full of character and color. Pumpkins and apples are celebrated throughout all the New England states, and there are loads of festivals to get you in the spirit.

Many destinations in northern New England start seeing great foliage right at the beginning of fall. As the season progresses, move south for the most vibrant leaves. No matter where you end up, the harvest is in full swing throughout autumn in New England. Look for restaurant weeks and other food festivals when planning a fall getaway in the region.

I went to Mount Holyoke College in Western Mass and to Tufts for grad school and absolutely loved everything about fall in the Berkshires! Of course once winter hit and there was snow on the ground, I loved going to Vermont to ski! And Maine was always a great getaway in the summer. Oh how I miss New England!
