Whole Foods Market is one of my favorite grocery stores. But I haven’t always felt that way.
I’ll never forget the first time I stepped into a Whole Foods Market. It was about 20 years ago, and I was on my way to a party at someone’s house. I had said I would bring soda, so I stopped at the store to get some Coke. I walked up and down the soda aisle, and there was no Coke.
I was so annoyed. “What is this place? They don’t even sell Coke?!” The nerve.
Healthy ingredients weren’t really on my radar back then.
Times have changed, and now I love shopping at a store that doesn’t carry Coke. Whole Foods Market has strict standards about what ingredients they let onto their shelves, and I’m grateful for that.
New Whole Foods Market in Boston’s South End
I’m happy to be partnering with Boston’s newest Whole Foods Market to spread the word about this incredible new store. The 50,000 square foot space is the former location of the Boston Herald, and it’s been transformed into a mecca for healthy food. It’s a beautiful space that includes many unique touches, including chandeliers crafted by local artisans.
Located at 348 Harrison Avenue in Boston’s South End, this store is a great new resource for residents in the South End, as well as South Boston, Chinatown, Fort Point, the Financial District, and Back Bay. It’s conveniently located near the T (red line, orange line, and silver line), but it also has a large parking lot that can accommodate over 100 cars.
This location is more than just a grocery store. It includes a juice bar, The Fish Shack, a frozen yogurt stand, and a high-tech coffee bar. It’s also the only Whole Foods Market in Massachusetts that sells wine, beer, and spirits. With 40 linear feet of craft beer on the shelves, I think my husband will want to take a field trip from the suburbs!
The new South End store is also currently the only Whole Foods Market in the country that has a unique day spa right in the store called “milk and honey.” This is a spa out of Austin, Texas, and it features a full line of services for men and women. While you’re shopping, you can stop in to enjoy everything from manicures, pedicures, and facials to hot shaves and shoe shines.
Saving Money at Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods Market may have a reputation for being expensive, but you can actually get high-quality groceries at an affordable price here. With more organic items than any other retailer in the country, this store is a great resource that’s worth learning to maneuver. Read my post about how to save money on groceries at Whole Foods Market. There are several strategies that will help you stick to your food budget while still enjoying this fabulous store.
When in doubt, look for the 365 Everyday Value store brand throughout the market. Items in this brand come in at a lower price point than other brands throughout the store, and the quality of these items is fantastic.
The bulk bins are another great option for affordable shopping at Whole Foods Market. The new South End store has 250 bulk items, including bulk greens and bulk superfoods. If you’re interested in trying maca powder or cacao nibs in your morning smoothie, but you don’t want to buy a whole package, the bulk bins are a great place to test out these less familiar items.
If you’re in the Boston area, visit the new Whole Foods Market-South End location at 348 Harrison Avenue (617-904-1000). The store is open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You can follow them on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with special events.
