After a high-paced week of sightseeing in San Francisco, my family landed in beautiful Tiburon, California for a little relaxation. This town just north of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge was exactly what we needed. The quiet streets, vibrant landscape, and non-touristy atmosphere invited us to take in the true beauty of the Bay Area.

The Lodge at Tiburon is located in the heart of this small town, just a couple blocks from the waterfront and ferry terminal. The surrounding neighborhood is filled with quaint shops, galleries, and cafes that are frequented by locals and visitors alike. When the fog clears, stunning views of San Francisco and Angel Island emerge with the sunshine.

The Lodge is a wonderful combination of rustic, casual, and contemporary. Our room was comfortable and fairly spacious, with plenty of room for an air mattress on the floor for one of the kids. The pretty decor, along with comfy beds and linens, made us feel so welcome and at ease.

My kids were thrilled with the pool, which was very well heated for the cool weather. And little touches like lemon water and apples available in the lobby made me very happy.

Special touches like this citrus water in the lobby at the Lodge at Tiburon make it a wonderful hotel.

Tiburon Tavern

My favorite feature of this hotel is its fantastic restaurant, Tiburon Tavern. We enjoyed dinner here on the patio one night, and everything was delicious. I love that the hotel has a garden on site that provides some edibles for the menu.

Sustainable fish is a specialty at the Tiburon Tavern.

The chef is a champion of sustainable seafood, so I wanted to try the daily fish special. It was a char dish served with quinoa, beet sauce, and chermoula. This meal was beautifully presented, and it tasted just as good as it looked.

Amazing pasta dish at the Tiburon Tavern!

My husband really enjoyed the mixed mushroom bucatini. This pasta dish was hearty and delicious. Broccolini, lemon, parmesan cheese, and fresh herbs gave it a fantastic flavor.

Delicious dessert at Tiburon Tavern!

The desserts were very impressive, too. We loved the panna cotta with strawberries, and the chocolate covered figs were something I had never tried before. This is one California specialty that I’ll want to recreate at home. Such a unique presentation!

Day Trips from Tiburon

Tiburon is right across the bay from San Francisco, and ferries are available throughout the day for tourists and commuters. Another ferry destination is Angel Island, a state park located just off the coast from Tiburon. This is a great spot for hiking, biking, and exploring the history of the area.

During our stay at the Lodge at Tiburon, we took a short drive over to Muir Woods. We wanted to get there bright and early to avoid the crowds, so the Lodge was a great starting point for that trip given its proximity to Muir Woods. We made it there before the big tourist rush of the day, and we enjoyed the serenity of the woods and the vastness of its ancient trees.

I’m not really a city person, so Tiburon holds a special place in my heart as I think back on our visit to the Bay Area. The Lodge at Tiburon will be at the top of my list the next time we’re in California.

  3. I love visiting California, but I’ve never made it to the Bay area. This post makes me want to add it to the places I’ve been! The Lodge at Tiburon looks like it would be a great place to stay. Those figs looked interesting and that view of the Golden Gate Bridge as the fog lifts is gorgeous.
