Healthy travel snacks are an essential part of the summer vacation season. Bring along some of these homemade snacks on your next road trip to help keep your family healthy and energized.
As travel season kicks into high gear, healthy eating becomes more and more challenging. It may be easier to buy snacks on the road, but I usually feel better if I bring some of my own homemade snacks when we’re on a road trip.
Did I mention we’re big snackers in my family? We all get a little grumpy when we’re hungry, so having high-quality snacks when we’re traveling is essential for us.
I like to pack a few homemade snacks for our road trips. These 10 healthy travel snacks are some of my favorites to take with us on the road. Many of them keep well for several days without refrigeration, so they can sustain us well into the trip. A few of them need a cooler, but they’ll keep for several days in there.
When we run out of homemade snacks while we’re on the road, we always look for a Whole Foods Market or food co-op at our destination. Grocery stores tend to have more healthy options than restaurants for quick, healthy snacks. Fresh fruits, nuts, Larabars, and trail mix from the bulk bins are great choices that will get you through the day better than donuts or muffins.
